Dougald,
I'm not sure what originally lead me to Dark Mountain, but you may be right, it could have been Paul's debate with Monbiot. I've been following the Guardian for a while.

Hi Dougald,

Could do, perhaps. Drop me an email with your phone number and we'll talk it over.

Cheers,

. . .

Agreed on the voting. It's always struck me as rather illogical that anyone should tick a box, once every three to five years, then expect that alone to achieve anything. Doesn't seem to happen in any other human endeavour, why would it for voting? A vote is just the start.

Or should be.

Interesting one page read, and a nice inversion of expectations of change. Vote for the lessor evil and make/be the change yourself. Nice.

Hi Dougald,

Thanks for the message. I have left the debate alone now for fear of swamping it, but I love a good debate with open-minded intelligent people and I think there's a good chance I will pop down on Thursday. I will sign up.

Kind regards,

Matthew

Well if truth be told I was a little rude to Paul about Dark Mountain, bu he argued his case and won me round..........but don't tell him that.

Hi Dougald,
Dark Mountain seems to lend itself to poetic output & I couldn't miss the opportunity for a bit of subversive advertising;) I'm really enjoying riffing off ideas that surround the project - hope to make the next wednesday meeting.

As I explained to Linda, I lost a son just 5 weeks ago to ALS and I am coping as best I can. I am pretty absorbed in personal details, tying up things where I live now and trying to sell my house to free myself t0 move back to Florida where my other son lives. I had actually forgotten checking out 'UNCIVILIZATION, so you must forgive me for being surprised at being contacted. I have very little computer time these days, so think it best if I do not try to pursue this any further--but I certainly wish you the best of good fortune in your endeavor.

Sounds absolutely great.... I'll dust off my great big tent for that indeed :D

I'm making fleeting visits to London when I can - keep meaning to get myself a cuppa in lovely Brixvill so will give you a shout when I'm next in that part of town!

Happy New Year!

Thanks for the reference - will chase it. Hope to write a couple of books from thesis, one on PR aspects, one on wider field of professional ethics, so examples from other fields v welcome.

Was fascinated by the convergence of fields - from sociology, philosophy and psychology - that shared concerns about meaning, the sacred, social performance and depth. Of course they all started out as one discipline, then fragmented over the last century, but made connections between Durkheim and Jung, Bourdieu, post modernism etc - all disputed and tenuous, but fascinating. All part of the one, deeper, conversation, I guess. Thanks for the welcome.

Hi Dougald. Thanks. And, no, no connection I think. The name was first my husband's, whose ancestors came from Towcester. Strangely, there are several Hines in our tiny town, most with no known connection. Great to be here. Interested to see where it takes me. Just got back from a festival this morning, another booked for two weeks' time and thinking we might not make your gathering this year. Our girl's only 1 and not very tolerant of sitting and discussing anything without animal noises or imminent food/milk. But one day...
