The twenty first century soul

For a while, I've been grappling with our current constructions of psychology. Fundamentally the assumptions we make about the human mind and spirit, underpin the cultural mess we are in - or vice versa. We could argue that it is out of the blindness of western civilisation that the narrowness of defining psychological functioning and where our dysfunction, distress and disconnection have emerged from.Eco-psychology has started to address this, but it is a wide and varied field and any new…See More

A conversation between a god and a human

1. A deity apologisesI had no idea of where it would lead to, and that was the problem: a failure of foresight. There was a spark. I sent it shimmering down from the heavens and it alighted - gently like a snow flake - onto the dry grass of your potential, and it took hold until it raged out of control like a bush fire, burning all before it. That was then. Now I cast my eyes over the desolation and wish it were not too late. I wish I had sent you something other than intelligence - bigger eyes…See More

Hi Steve,

Glad to know you're coming to the festival - look forward to seeing you there.

Steve,

You deserve a like and even a star for daring to mention dancing.

When my granddaughter is having a bad morning I play this for her.

When her cousin is over they will come to me and say, “PaPaLee, play the woogie boogie, please please please.” and dance about wildly. They are too young to fear looking foolish.

When the Black Lady comes for me I hope to waltz into heaven or oblivion. Whatever the case may be.

Hello Steve,

Good to connect with you here! I am Cardiff-based at the moment, but also spend a lot of time in North Pembrokeshire - so I hope there will be a chance to meet at some stage.

Hi Steve, shame we didn't get more chance for a chat at the festival. Hope to bump into you again soon!

Nice one, Steve! A touch on the arm is the least we can do.

I enjoyed that MelloMello evening, and Jo & I managed to catch the Turner/Monet/Twombly exhibition at the Tate the next day. It's great to live out in the hills -- though the dreaded windfarms multiply -- but a blast of the big city scene does me good once in a while.

And I like Simple Instructions, Steve.

I'm a social media refusenik, but am making an exception for Dark Mountain. Awake in the small hours, catching up after attending a Council of All Beings this weekend in Glastonbury, run by Debbie Warrener whom I met at the last two Unciv's. Excellent, profound, it will help my writing; I'd recommend it.

Good luck, and all power to your own pen.

Phil

The preacher

Posted on November 30, 2012 at 12:30 0 Comments

As things gradually declined he became prone to preaching from the top of the steeple. He felt that this was an appropriate place to speak from, even though nothing at all uplifting ever went on inside. If he wasn’t closer to God, then he was closer to the birds, and closer to their ragged nests and hideaways, stuck to the side of the church roof. Sometimes it wasn’t even worth him coming down, and so on warm days in what used to be called Autumn, he would sit in the cleft between the…

Five lives of soul and shadow (beginning of post)

For  some time I have thought that we need a new and poetic integration for our troubled times. There are projects out there  of course- notably Ken Wilber’s Integral Life, the recent field of Positive Psychology, the Human Givens Institute, among…
