London DM Midwinter Meetup at The Three Kings, Clerkenwell

December 8, 2011 from 6pm to 9pm
I've been out of London and not around to host meetups this autumn, but it would be lovely to see people for an (early) Midwinter meetup in December. We've got the upstairs room at the Three Kings in Clerkenwell booked for the night. It's a bit cosier than our previous haunt at the Royal Festival Hall - there's room for about twenty, so please sign up here if you're coming and let me know if you're bringing extras.Bring a Midwinter Gift to share - it could be a poem, a song, a cake or anything…See More

Double bill Tuesday night: John Harris and Bill Hicks at upstairs at Passing Clouds, 1 Richmond Road, E8, just off Kingsland Road behind the Haggerston pub.

February 1, 2011 from 7pm to 10:30pm
Tuesday, 1st February at the Permaculture Picturehouse: Sane Man by comedian Bill Hicks and It's an illusion By John Harris.IT’S AN ILLUSION: John Harris unveils in simple language how the laws of our land are made, and how through the creation of a legal fiction known as your 'PERSON', we become economic slaves to a debt dependent system. This arrangement only works when we consent. Unfortunately inaction is taken as consent, hence we have unwittingly surrendered our inalienable rights through…See More

January 12, 2011 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm
Come and join us for the first DM meetup of 2011, this Wednesday evening on the South Bank. These meetups are a chance to meet others interested in the Dark Mountain project and have conversations you might not find elsewhere. The format is very informal - it's basically an evening in the pub with some likeminded people, rather than a meeting as such - so drop in at any point through the evening. If you have difficulty finding us, give Dougald a call on 07810 650213.See More

Tell us a bit about yourself. (You don't have to share anything you don't want to, but please write something here, so we know you're not a spam robot.)
I am an ecologist and conservation biologist, have worked with species with individuals numbered in the hundreds rather than the thousands, all the time trying to understand what these figures mean for us as a species and our place in nature.

I have loved ones here and in Crete, where I spend half the year near a beautiful sea turtle beach.
What drew you to the Dark Mountain Project?
In the last few years I have moved deeper into realms which can speak more to the experience of a tangible connection with nature - permaculture, druidry, natural beekeeping, ecological economics and environmental ethics - as a lived reality and a practical step. Many authors and podcast have inspired me - Derrick Jensen, Charles Eisenstein, KMO, Neil Kramer.

The DMP seems able to capture and reflect the confusing and nuanced responses we have to increasingly clear messages from reality, and I would like to develop my own ability to communicate these ideas to others.
