"I would be happy to meet up. Interestingly perhaps, I'm finishing up a book on German idealism as the path out of the European nightmare which we did not take, and it was out of idealism that the first calls for a new mythology arose. But…"

Tell us a bit about yourself. (You don't have to share anything you don't want to, but please write something here, so we know you're not a spam robot.)
I'm a writer & independent scholar, author of "The fiction of a thinkable world: Body, meaning, and the culture of capitalism" (Monthly Review Press 2005), which resonates very much with your analysis, and "A New Biology of Religion: Spiritual practice and the Life of the Body" (Praeger, 2012). I'm currently working on the philosophy of Johann Gottlieb Fichte, and my working hypothesis is that in him & the other idealists we saw the European project revealing its own self-negation; this moment of clarity was too subversive to be tolerated and what we live in now is not the legacy of the Enlightenment--which was a movement of self-critique--but of its suppression. This is the theme of a forthcoming book from ZerO Press, title yet to be agreed upon.
What drew you to the Dark Mountain Project?
I'm interested in anyone who is willing to subject modernity--and self-experience within modernity--to an internal critique. I'm also as convinced as you are that our present way of life is an utter disaster. I take issue with "inhuman", but only because I do not see our lives today as remotely human to begin with. To mashup Marx and Blake, we have nothing to lose but our mind-forged manacles....

two---four in the afternoon...Seniors/writing (Bring your book.)   Want to exchange ideas re.   "new mythology"  as exposure (?) of the "myth of Progress."  Really exciting idea.
