A walk on the dark side

If you are reading this, could we walk together, for a way? We need one another though soon our paths will separate.Throughout the world, there are so many, like us, of all ages, who know that the Manifesto speaks truth, that is, it provides an accurate reflection of the world we know.Last night, on Grand Designs (a UK TV programme on buildings) a guy was building a house of freshly cut timbers in the woods. The programme was, no doubt, a repeat and I missed the beginning, so I have no idea…See More

Hi Jeffrey, it's good to meet you.

Thanks for the link to the David Holt webpage, I hadn't encountered him before. I was drawn, straight away, to his essay 'Jung and Marx: Alchemy, Christianity and the Work Against Nature'. It is certainly an interesting perspective. Although his beliefs about the state of the world, along with a number of ideas he holds, parallel with my own, he certainly has a very different way of understanding and explaining the situation than myself. I look forward to reading his other writings when I get chance.

I also have an appreciation for Jung's work and ideas, although I haven't read into him extensively. Some of his ideas have definitely been an influence on how I see the world.

I've just watched the video that you have linked to in your profile and was surprised to notice that it was filmed for the Open University! I'm currently part way through my studies with the Open University, where I'm working towards a degree in Environmental studies. I've taken a break from it this year, as I've already completed 3 years, two of which were part-time, but hoping to continue again as of next year if I'm able. This year I took the opportunity to get doing more practical work by volunteering with the BTCV in Manchester, with whom I am now a Volunteer Officer, meaning I've taken on greater responsibility and leadership.

Yes, our new place is also in Manchester. We moved to Chorlton, and love it very much, however we've had little time to get our new garden sorted out, having been so busy.

I've had a quick look at the Earth Charter website, and hope to be able to have a more thorough read soon. Recently I discovered David Suzuki, and his book the Sacred Balance, which I have been reading. Has been very much in line with my own thinking, and have been struck by some of the ideas he's been conveying that reflect conclusions that I was coming to a couple of years ago, such as the inherrent human need for order and control over chaos.

I'm sure you've probably heard of Suzuki and his declaration of interdependence that was written for the 1992 Earth Summit. It's always good to have your ideas reflected by those of others, and I've been feeling a revived sense of inspiration to explore these ideas further.

Anyways, I must treck on with the day-to-day doings.

All the best,

Andy :)

P.S. Just a final thought: Jung talked about the shadow, those aspects of the self that we are not willing to accept about ourselves that we repress and in many cases project on to others. The consequence of this repression is usually some kind of destructive behaviour. If you think about it, Corporations also have a shadow in the form of the 'externalities' that they are not willing to acknowlege as part of themselves, and the consequences of this are also destructive. It's interesting how the state of the world 'out there' seems to be a reflection of the state of the world within us. It really shows, as you say at the end of the OU video, that there can be no technological fix to the looming chaos we are facing; the solution is ethical, within the consiousness and culture of humanity...
