As some of you know, I've been struggling with what this site is for over the past few weeks.
In its other manifestations - the books, the festival, other face-to-face events and collaborations - Dark Mountain has been a space of reflection and thoughtfulness, something that's never had a one-liner or a soundbite. This deliberate difficulty invites people to slow down, to stay with their uncertainties and puzzlements, to live with the unknown rather than trying to conquer…

I'm not sure what originally lead me to Dark Mountain, but you may be right, it could have been Paul's debate with Monbiot. I've been following the Guardian for a while.

Agreed on the voting. It's always struck me as rather illogical that anyone should tick a box, once every three to five years, then expect that alone to achieve anything. Doesn't seem to happen in any other human endeavour, why would it for voting? A vote is just the start.
Or should be.
Interesting one page read, and a nice inversion of expectations of change. Vote for the lessor evil and make/be the change yourself. Nice.

Thanks for the message. I have left the debate alone now for fear of swamping it, but I love a good debate with open-minded intelligent people and I think there's a good chance I will pop down on Thursday. I will sign up.

Dark Mountain seems to lend itself to poetic output & I couldn't miss the opportunity for a bit of subversive advertising;) I'm really enjoying riffing off ideas that surround the project - hope to make the next wednesday meeting.
