Is anyone else bummed out that all the fun DM stuff happens in England? Why isn't there as strong of a presence in the US?

I belong to the Paleo nutrition/lifestyle community online, and we have a few big events a year. It's amazing to touch base with people and feed off the collective energy toward a common goal. Why isn't that happening with DM here?

Has anyone been to the events abroad?

Hi Gerard, sorry to reply so late! I'm not sure why your message slipped by.

Paleo nutrition is about trying to figure out a biologically appropriate diet for human beings using evolution, human history, and scientific research to put the puzzle pieces together. In a nutshell (no pun intended), it eschews all grains, legumes, processed foods, refined sugars, and industrialized vegetable oils for a diet full of the foods that would have been available to us before the advent of agriculture: meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Of course, modernity makes certain demands, so it's not about being a "caveman" as many like to joke, but about aligning our food intake with optimal health. 

If one looks at hunter-gatherer groups, we notice that there is no cancer, dementia, acne, depression, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and many, many other ills that we experience with startling regularity in industrialized societies. The reasons are multifactorial, but diet is one of the biggest things we can do to reclaim our health and vitality.

hey, i found this last year and got an account and then i sort of forgot about it, and its just hard to keep up with online forums! ive started perusing the UK site, pretty amazing, i wonder how much on the ground energy there is behind it. I really think that as far as the US goes, it's just not on our radar at all! it's hard to really grasp what it is or what its purpose- plus theres so much going on here already...i need to look around and see who and what is going on with this cascadia forum. Do you know if there are other US forums than the cascadia one?

 

Im into the Paleo and Earthskills networks here. I'm curious which big events youre thinking of that you mentioned.
