Evacuating thoughtlessly into an object without any consideration
For the effect ones behaviour has on that object, is an
Early developmental stage. It depends upon the use of projective 
Identification. The object or other only serves as a projection
Bucket for unwanted aspects of the self.
This is how the earth has been used in the main by industrial 
Societies driven by the anxiety to survive the eRth like the mother
Is exploited and taken from and evacuated into .

   Indeed mother earth has been long-suffering to us in our naive infancy as beings,  and indeed it is time for

the trauma of potty-training  ... we shall not like it , but for all the tantrums and outbursts it is just a phase of mankind's development ...  Father would not expect responsibility of the untrained infants ...

I agree but where is the father ... Other than in the 
Persecutory threat of global warning famine etc...
Rather than our own capacity to take on the authority required
To protect the mother earth. 
The move from external authority or threat to an internal conscience is a
Difficult one.

  the  'father' is there as always, endlessly ,

creative, simply solidly existing relentlessly

 ready to create again what the 'kids' destroy in their rebellion

their lack of knowledge

their foolish naivety

Isaiah 65:17  For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
Isaiah 66:22  For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
2 Peter 3:13  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
Revelation 21:1  And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away...

 

this is after all what the creator  'does' ... and eventually the kids grow up, respect and love the source of their being

Yes unfortunately the old prophets and gods represent
a certainty in deity rather than mankind recognising 
that it's our responsibility and there are no parents
Watching over us. We are the parents of the earth.

well it's partly true... we surely don't NEED watching over , in that we have nowhere else to go than where we came from ... but clearly mankind's 'development' has been guided over and over by 'inspiration' of new theories which shape our lives almost completely ... the few who had these insprations mostly attribute them to God [in autobiographies for instance] knowing such powerful truths did not come from nothing or from them...  so God has been guiding mankind away from disaster repeatedly until the quota of sants from this earth is filled ... then, seemingl fairly soon by the signs, mankind is left to kill ourselves with our absurd complacency of faith in lies of normal life...  not so mch a punishment as a lesson about lack of humility , false pride, but more importantly the oly way to 'queue up' mankind whilst teh fe saints establish the perfectly loving society of the kingdom of God in teh new earth before the many can be resurrected to begin persuading everyone to try love instead of capitalism as the way of life...
