Permalink Reply by zarathrustra on September 7, 2010 at 16:29 A nice and concise summery of our shit. I do like the idea of the 'USA guilt meme' - a little too simplistic to explain all our crap and mistakes, but something I had missed and now pointed out is (in my mind) most certainly a contributing factor.
I disagree that there is no solution though, I just don't think we (humanity in it's entirety) would ever implement that changes needed. Shame, but as you say - the Earth abides...

Permalink Reply by zarathrustra on September 8, 2010 at 16:34 hmmm thats one explanation. do you have any evidence for it? also I'm not sure if we're really facing self extinction- yet...

...From the debris may eventually arise a more enlightened society but the rest of this century is going to be very chaotic as one sytem spasms violently in its death throes, whilst small pockets of "homo-eco-equilibria"
(to coin a term) try to establish themselves; If that sounds like some kind of Sci-fi novel then so be it! Its what we will find ourselves living through!

No, I don't think it sounds sci-fi - I personally absolutely believe in the possibility! I am very fond of a book by Ervin Laszlo called 'Chaos Point' which discusses tipping points in civilisations and how it can lead to leaps from on state to another (either 'better' or 'worse'). He theorised we are in one now and it could go either way. It was all (in my mind) very Mayan in it's outlook...

Permalink Reply by zarathrustra on June 25, 2011 at 16:25 A Chilling report! My own guess is that the collapse will really begin wheneither;1 China and russia officially dump the $; or 2; The next corp-fascist puppet president(Romney? possible) instigates protectionism against foreign imports as a way to hurt the chinese another possibility is 3;The Peak oil price spike we are are currently experiencing dips slightly then pushes even higher due to further conflict/declining mid east production;at $150 per barrel or higher(remember the $ is also depreciating against other currencies) wipes millions of americans off the road(at least in terms of legal car ownership) and pushes food/heating costs to impossible levels;I see 1 or all of these happening by 2016;As with soviet collapse it will be fast and bumpy.
I hope for your sake wolfbird that if you are living in a large city, you move some where safer where you can grow your own food and find trustworthy people for a resilient local community; The cities will be hideous zones of decay, savagery and desperate stupidity.

Yes, zarathrustra, I think it is a safe bet that US will implode, but when ? is the big question that nobody can answer with precision. Mass murder of Mexicans is happening already...
"So Mexico's war is how the future will look, because it belongs not in the 19th century with wars of empire, or the 20th with wars of ideology, race and religion – but utterly in a present to which the global economy is committed, and to a zeitgeist of frenzied materialism we adamantly refuse to temper: it is the inevitable war of capitalism gone mad. Twelve years ago Cardona and the writer Charles Bowden curated a book called Juarez: The Laboratory of Our Future. They could not have known how prescient their title was. In a recent book, Murder City, Bowden puts it another way: "Juarez is not a breakdown of the social order. Juarez is the new order." "

since we know [now] that the universe is open [even at creation] then the idea of entropic doom is a myth, the laws of thermodynamics do not apply ... as for USA, it is insolvent, Obama was groomed, schooled and paid for by Goldman-Sachs to oversee its demolition into a European slave state servicing the international banking elite [billionaires who have the legal right to create money from nothing and charge taxpayers interest worldwide for the privilege of being wage-slaves to a proven- self-destructive system that no-one can stop until it destroys itself and leaves everyone even worse off , unprepared and bereft of resources in a world about to be destroyed by de-stabilised natural forces seemingly beyond the comprehension of any but a few prophets down the ages ...]
note: the Greenland ice sheet, now known to be unstoppably-melting will uncover masses of volcanoes, held in abeyance by ice-pressure , all at once... say goodbye to sunlight and find out what 'nuclear winter' means without the nuclear... then try to live without plants and later animals... complacent mankind plays brinkmanship with nature and loses everything, just a lesson for false pride...
Permalink Reply by zarathrustra on September 2, 2011 at 10:37 The universe is an open system unaffected by the laws of thermodynamics? Since when? I would be interested in a link to your source material! However I think your point about increased volcanic activity is a good one.
I agree obama is nothing but a corp-fascist puppet but the US will not become a slave state to Europe; Both entities will likely fragment into smaller regional structures,of which some will survive and others disintegrate into somali like zones of criminality;Just imagine South Central LA or Bosnia without any form of law enforcement.
It will certainly be an interesting century in which humanity will learn the hard way, humility and respect towards the planet
Permalink Reply by Stranger on September 2, 2011 at 19:14 the universe is open because of it's point of creation and because of black holes ...so the thermodynamics of closed sytems doesn't apply to it, in particular one cannot conclude 'entropic doom' because that only applies to closed systems.
as for the future, the engineered world recession is just bigger, but essentially no different that previous enineered depressions and indeed the aim is political, the establishment of a world organisation[new world order] to front the international banker(s) who come out on top once they finish the race to power of besting one another in reaching ownership of the world [before folks realise that letting them create money from nothing was a bad idea cos' it handed them power over mankind and power to destroy the earth for short-sighted private profit - for power through money [what profit when they destroy themselves too ?]
Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? [life]
