Supermarkets and shopping malls have been around for a couple of generations - but marketplaces have been around for thousands of years as sociable gathering spaces, places of performance, conversation and ideas as well as trade.
So we want to celebrate the resilience of the marketplace, embedded within a community and as a cultural crossing point, with our last pre-festival gathering ahead of UNCIVILISATION 2010 - a day of music, storytelling, discussions and fun at Brixton Village indoor market.
The day's events will include
· Music from Kat Drake, Rebecca Jade and others who'll be playing
· Storytelling for all ages
· Workshops and discussions exploring the themes of the Dark Mountain Project
· Film screenings
· Great food and drink from the Brixton Village cafes and restaurants.
· And a chance to pick up the first Dark Mountain book – hot off the press!
